Arecoline is an alkaloid found in the seeds of the plant Areca nut, and its hydrobromide is commonly used clinically [1]. White crystalline powder, odorless, bitter, toxic, and will deteriorate when exposed to light. Melting point 170-171℃. Soluble in water and ethanol. It is derived from the reaction of arecoline and hydrobromic acid ethanol solution. Anthelmintics, mostly for veterinary treatment

Pharmacological effects:

Arecoline hydrobromide has a strong paralyzing effect on the muscles of tapeworms, causing the parasites to lose their ability to adhere to the intestinal wall. In addition, the drug has a muscarinic effect on the host, which strengthens intestinal peristalsis and increases secretion of digestive glands, which is beneficial to Rapid elimination of paralytic insects. This product is effective against all tapeworms in dogs. It can also eliminate Taenia ovis, Polycephalus tapeworm and Echinococcus granulosus. It also has a repellent effect on poultry tapeworms.
